Spring/Summer 2009 Collection
Fifth season of the Galliano youth line
The new Galliano woman wraps herself in emotion, leitmotif of a wonderfully vibrant collection rich in ideas
and inflections where every detail borders on artistic expression.
This season the fashion designer draws inspiration from the Victorian Age, period spanning from the late
1800s to the early 1920s, to define a Scarlet O'Hara who merges supremely feminine and extra mannish images,
then adds strong hints of today's streetstyle. The travel mood is still very much in the picture, taking on a
clearer and trendier slant that directly intersects the concept of freedom.
There are three main themes: Urban, where the historic backdrop is given an ultracontemporary imprint, the
openminded attitude toward past&future translates into a creative personal geography, and the visionary
poetics of the street reasserts the legend of this very same style; Casual, where the keyword is eclecticism,
styles reflect a crossover spirit, contrasts join forces, and all power to the imagination becomes exuberant
reality; Romantic, where now it's all about the preciousness of workmanship and an exquisitely fresh elegance
exalted by the delicacy of hues and lightness of materials.
Colors and fabrics are deeply nuanced. The palette ranges from soft shades of powder, plum and salmon to fuller
turquoise, smoke and midnight tones. Allover prints both refer to and are inspired by the collection's
highlight themes, make a gorgeous statement on silk georgette, fluid jersey, cotton/silk voile and satin.
High impact florals often come in mix with checks and stripes, promptly call forth period tapestries, complete
with bows and macramé trim.
It's a collection subverting customs while remaining perfectly true to sensuality and style.
Launched in Paris in July of 2006, Galliano is the hit youth line marking John Galliano's partnership with
Ittierre. For this fourth season, the collection includes over 330 items of clothing as well as about 140
accessories (shoes, bags, jewelry).
"MAGIC COLLECTION" AUTUMN/WINTER 2009-2010
Femininity, independence, eccentric class, elegant irony,... languid and at the same time energetic glam for a "special" woman.
"Sailor chic" stripes mixed with a "tourbillon" of nuances and "romantic style" frills in fil coupé motifs, in operated satins, in the double stripe jersey, in crêpe cady, ..., and that flavour of WINTER in DEAUVILLE lights up of sequins and mellows with embroideries and pinkings.
THE FEMININE MALE plays and appears in the urban look of a dreamy "gazette";
between lettering and metropolitan pavé, the fantastic dream of butterfly, many moths coloured of seduction in a contrast with denim, bouclé and chalk-stripes.
The sweet but combative, René, ICON OF ART AND STYLE, is a "garconne" in polka dots, studded with stars and baguette dreams, but in the meantime very contemporary in the casual chic of clothes with row hem coating wool, jacquard coats, techno sweatshirts.
Light fabrics, but "tactile", fluid and waved, writings of yarn and twist, iridescent working and techno finishing - hand made.
Families of colours matched in contrasts, from a vivid clematis to a sweeter enamel quartz, from a pink oyster to a fuchsia flash, until to dark notes of blue and slate.
On the whole geometry and sweetness, powder of pearl and nude, volumes and softness ... a "soft" elegance, happily contaminated and new.
